Certificate of Canadian citizenship
A Certificate of Canadian citizenship is not a travel document. A Canadian passport is the only reliable and universally accepted travel and identification document available to Canadians for the purpose of international travel. Canadian citizens returning to Canada who present other documents instead of a Canadian passport may face delays or be denied boarding by transport companies.
To determine whether you are a Canadian citizen, or if you require proof of Canadian citizenship, you may apply for a certificate of Canadian citizenship. To obtain a certificate of Canadian citizenship, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada provides an online Application for a Citizenship Certificate. If you are abroad, you can obtain information on the necessary procedures from the nearest Canadian government office.
