Find out if you can travel to Canada – Foreign national - Student
You indicated that you are:
- a foreign national
- an international student
To be able to enter Canada, you must have a valid study permit, and the school you’re attending must be considered a designated learning institution (DLI) with a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by its province or territory.
You will likely be allowed to enter Canada if you meet these requirements; however, the final determination will be made by a government official at the port of entry.
What you need to do next
- check that your school is a designated learning institution (DLI) with a COVID-19 readiness plan
- bring your valid study permit (or proof of the approval)
- bring a valid letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution (DLI) on the approved list
- bring proof that you have enough money to support yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada
- use ArriveCAN to submit your information
- if you will be 17 years old or younger when you arrive, you must follow the checklist of pre-entry testing and quarantine requirements
- if you will be 18 years or older when you arrive, you must qualify as a fully vaccinated traveller to enter Canada.
- Exemptions for daily or regular cross-border students and people driving them
Students travelling with immediate family
If you are travelling with immediate family, such as your spouse or a dependent child, they may be allowed to enter Canada with you.
Students in a health field: quarantine exemptions
If you are working in Canada as a student in a health field, you will likely be exempt from quarantine if you are entering for the purposes of performing your duties as long as you do not directly care for persons 65 years of age or older within the 14-day period that begins on the day you enter Canada.
You must still comply with any additional provincial or territorial restrictions.
This answer does not guarantee entry into Canada
- You must have no signs or symptoms of COVID-19 to enter.
- Final determination regarding entry and quarantine is made by a government representative at the port of entry based on the information presented to them at the time of entry into Canada.
- You must meet the entry requirements under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and provide appropriate travel and immigration documentation; find out if you need a visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)
- Failure to comply with the COVID-19 Emergency order is an offence under the Quarantine Act and could lead to imprisonment and/or fines.
